About

DANIEL ARONDE JONG

Daniel Aron de Jong is a sound designer, field recordist and composer from the north-west of Germany. He studied geosciences in Innsbruck and music design in Trossingen. During a practical year of his music design studies he co-developed the Mirra 14 studio monitor at Abacus Electronics.

His work moves between sound for film, long recordings of quiet places, deep listening concerts, and experimental music released as Aron Stadler. What connects them is listening: a field recording describes a place and the life in it at one particular hour, a film needs the same attention to space, and in the music the question turns inward, to the point where noise becomes tone and an intention gives way to what is simply there.

Underneath all of it lies a spiritual, and in the end a religious, motivation. For him, listening is a form of prayer: turning toward a place without wanting anything from it, letting a sound be what it is, and finding in that attention a trace of something greater than oneself. The recordings, concerts and compositions are attempts to share this listening, and to open a space where stillness can be heard.
